Digital Sign by a Teller Line

Branch Transformation is all the rage these days. But it’s a long and complex path. True transformation goes far beneath the surface to provide a new and revolutionary client experience. 2 things to consider if you haven’t yet upgraded your ATM’s to EMV

Did you meet the EMV card-issuing deadline?

The initial switch to issuing EMV cards has gotten most of the attention recently, but another deadline is just around the corner – Mastercard’s October 2016 deadline for ATM compliance. According to a study by Credit Union Times, 78% of credit unions did not finish the card-issuing process by last October’s deadline.

About 1/2 (46%) of study respondents said that while their switch wasn’t complete at that time, they were in the process and almost done. (Interestingly, a similar percentage (44.5%) said they were behind schedule due to card supply issues.) Here are 2 things to consider if you’re still planning your ATM EMV upgrades. [Read more…]

The Final Question – “Should I buy a Teller Cash Recycler?” (Part 4 of 4)

Teller Cash Recyclers are an outstanding piece of new technology. They have great potential in automating your operations, reducing counting time, and increasing total transactions per day, as well as transactions per hour.

However, before purchasing new equipment or upgrading from a teller cash dispenser, there are important considerations.

  • In what type of cash-flow situation am I going to implement this TCR?
  • What type of storage, note variety and capacity do I need?
  • How will this unit be integrated to the core?
  • How does this fit into my Branch Transformation plans?
  • Will this affect my staffing costs? And how?

In short, for financial institutions that are looking for efficiency gains, or are re-defining their client experience, a Recycler can increase your teller’s productive time, decrease counting time, and give you staffing flexibility to adapt to client flow. This gives your staff time to truly focus on the consumer and their experience – which in turn leads to better understanding your clients’ needs.

When your tellers and supervisors spend less time counting cash or running to the vault, they can focus on delivering the experiences and products your clients truly want and need. And that’s the bottom line of success for any organization.

If you need help choosing a unit, please call or email us. Even if you’re not a current client, we are happy to talk with you and assist you in finding the unit that’s best for you. Thanks for reading, we hope this has been helpful!

5 Things to know about TCRs (Part 3 of 4)

You can think of a Teller Cash Recycler as a more robust ATM that serves your tellers instead of consumers. Just as in an ATM, there are important differences in operation between the many models available.

Storage of notes:

Recyclers use two different systems for storing notes: Cassettes, or Rolled-Storage-Module (RSM).

  • While a cassette will hold more than a single RSM, total machine capacity will vary based on how many cassettes or RSM’s it holds.
  • RSM machines can hold a wider variety of notes than cassettes.
  • RSM’s take up less space than cassettes, but hold fewer notes each.
  • Cassettes dispense straight bills, while RSM’s may impart a minor curl to the notes.
  • When unloading, an RSM dispenses every note still in the module; cassettes are opened and emptied by hand.
  • Redundancy – RSM units can continue to function even when one or more modules are out-of-service. So if you have multiple RSM’s of the same denomination, a module problem may not shut down your machine immediately.
Integration to your core

When they first came to market, integrating a Recycler to your core required either third-party software to connect the two (middleware, often requiring dual-entry setup) or you had limited choices available in Recyclers that were directly compatible.  Today, USB and/or network-based integration, combined with excellent middleware, make installing/integrating a Recycler simple and painless. Dual entry is eliminated, and only one balancing step is required at the end of the day.

Other considerations:
  • Do I need a unit with continuous-feed capability? (Mostly high-volume applications)
  • What are my audit requirements? RSM units will count every bill as it dispenses during an audit, which may take a bit longer. Cassettes can be opened and unloaded, which may be a risk you wish to avoid.

There are many different models on the market. Each unit has its own strengths and weaknesses, and each installation has its own requirements. These are some of the questions you should consider when looking at TCR’s. Please contact us for assistance in determining which unit is the best fit for you!
