5 Things to know about TCRs (Part 3 of 4)

You can think of a Teller Cash Recycler as a more robust ATM that serves your tellers instead of consumers. Just as in an ATM, there are important differences in operation between the many models available.

Storage of notes:

Recyclers use two different systems for storing notes: Cassettes, or Rolled-Storage-Module (RSM).

  • While a cassette will hold more than a single RSM, total machine capacity will vary based on how many cassettes or RSM’s it holds.
  • RSM machines can hold a wider variety of notes than cassettes.
  • RSM’s take up less space than cassettes, but hold fewer notes each.
  • Cassettes dispense straight bills, while RSM’s may impart a minor curl to the notes.
  • When unloading, an RSM dispenses every note still in the module; cassettes are opened and emptied by hand.
  • Redundancy – RSM units can continue to function even when one or more modules are out-of-service. So if you have multiple RSM’s of the same denomination, a module problem may not shut down your machine immediately.
Integration to your core

When they first came to market, integrating a Recycler to your core required either third-party software to connect the two (middleware, often requiring dual-entry setup) or you had limited choices available in Recyclers that were directly compatible.  Today, USB and/or network-based integration, combined with excellent middleware, make installing/integrating a Recycler simple and painless. Dual entry is eliminated, and only one balancing step is required at the end of the day.

Other considerations:
  • Do I need a unit with continuous-feed capability? (Mostly high-volume applications)
  • What are my audit requirements? RSM units will count every bill as it dispenses during an audit, which may take a bit longer. Cassettes can be opened and unloaded, which may be a risk you wish to avoid.

There are many different models on the market. Each unit has its own strengths and weaknesses, and each installation has its own requirements. These are some of the questions you should consider when looking at TCR’s. Please contact us for assistance in determining which unit is the best fit for you!

Teller Cash Recyclers – Is a Recycler or a Dispenser better for me? (Part 2 of 4)

How does a Teller Cash Recycler compare to a Teller Cash Dispenser? And which one should I buy?

I’ll bet that if you’re reading this, you either have a Dispenser, or you’re considering an upgrade.  You’re asking, Which is better – a Recycler, or a new Dispenser?

And the famous answer is… “It Depends.” Recyclers are great machines – but that doesn’t mean they’re perfect for every application. As with any equipment purchase, you reap the greatest benefit from installing them in situations where they can shine.

A Recycler solves different problems than a Dispenser.

The biggest factor in choosing between the two is the type of cash flow they will be handling. In highly [Read more…]
